Are You Asking?
One of the things I’ve been able to do over the years is accepting the fact I’ll never achieve perfection. However, I constantly look at myself seeking areas for me to improve. Many times I share imperfections with the hope that others might learn from my experience developed over the years.
I started Fixed Performance over 15 years ago, and to this day I don’t have a sales department. We don’t make random phone calls trying to reach dealers and convince them how wonderful our results are. We don’t have an advertising budget spending huge amounts of money in magazines or newsprint. Fixed Performance has been built entirely on referrals and I am proud of that! Several times I’ve been provided advise on how important it is to constantly be contacting potential clients asking for their business.
Frankly, this illustrates one of my flaws as I can’t personally make random calls seeking additional business, I hate to ask! It’s an area of personal development I’ve been working on the last several years. Rest assured you’ll never get a random phone call from me asking for your business. If I don’t like those phone calls why would I pay somebody to make them and possibly irritate dealers? I am confident there has been a cost in my reluctance to aggressively seek out new business.
My approach to overcome asking is to share information. Thousands subscribe to our weekly newsletter and read the featured articles in national magazines that I have written. Dealerships that like the information that we provide have reached out to us and most of those have become clients. Others have thanked us for the newsletters and articles stating they get a lot out of the information. I will now ask for the extra sauce or salad dressing if I desire it. They always bring it out when I ask. When you don’t ask it tends to bother you and build resentment over time. What are you not asking for? Are you always looking for ways to improve yourself for a better quality of life in the future? Today I am asking you to challenge yourself!
Sincerely,
